Never Come Ashore is a net label that releases recordings and documentation of experimental music. NCA is based in Glasgow and its focus is on releasing work by local artists.
It started out as a problem solving project; we wanted to distribute
our own sound work and the work of our colleagues. We want to do this
without the clutter and the barriers that come with traditional CD /
vinyl / cassette distribution but without dismissing these formats.
It has developed to become a producer of concerts and events, supporting collaborations between local and international artists and experimenting with different forms of documentation.
The releases fall into two streams:
- Free downloads of diverse material in ALAC / AAC / mp3 / Flac / mp4 / pdf formats
- Occasional physical releases such as LPs, CDs, CDRs and printed material
Income from sales of CDs, LPs etc goes towards producing further concerts, commissioning new work and supporting other music related projects in Glasgow.
The label has been funded by University of Glasgow's Chancellor's Fund and has worked with other organisations such as Arika, Music in the University, Kinning Park Complex, BBC SSO and Ladyfest Glasgow to develop the experimental music scene in Glasgow and beyond.
